1993 Oakwood Custom – £2999
NEW ARRIVAL I always like a guitar with a story; well here’s one for you….. In the early 60’s Roger McGuinn worked closely with Judy Collings, and they continued to collaborate ever since. In the early 90’s Roger decided to have two matching guitars made, each with their name inlaid on a scroll on the headstock. There’s a picture of the two guitars together, one says Jim R McGuinn and the other says Judy. The story goes that for some reason, Judy never received her guitar. This is the guitar that was meant for her, with the name removed from the scroll. Handmade in the north of England by Oakwood, the guitar is a feast for the eyes. A slope shouldered dreadnought featuring a Spruce top with English Sycamore back and sides, finished in a vivid cherry red, with Abalone rosette, headstock and body binding, plus beautiful Sycamore leaf fingerboard inlays. The tone is deep and rich, with the Sycamore adding a real sparkle in the trebles. The neck feels snug in the left hand, and the action is very comfortable. Even without the story, it’s a beautiful guitar with fantastic tone. But with the story it’s a fascinating piece of music history. The guitar comes in it’s original hard case.
