1971 Yamaha FG180 red label Made in Japan – £649

NEW ARRIVAL  Along with the FG-140 and FG-300, the Yamaha FG-180 was one of the original “red label” six-string jumbo acoustics built in Japan starting in 1969, and it became the flagship guitar for Yamaha in the late sixties and early seventies. This is one of the best sounding examples I’ve played, and it captures a moment in time when – certainly in the folk scene – anyone who was anyone played a Yamaha. The guitar has great depth and warmth to its tone. When strummed it has a room filling sound, when fingerpicked it has great clarity and detail. It’s in well played condition, with no cracks or repairs, and upgraded Kluson tuners.
