1958 Gibson J160E – £3499

NEW ARRIVAL  Possibly the most recognisable of all Gibson acoustics, the J160E was made famous by the Beatles, and as such if you want to recreate that unique sound – this is the only guitar that gets you there. There have been various modern reissues by Gibson that have the look, but only a genuine vintage example will have the true sound, character, vibe and feel. Both acoustic and plugged in, it has ‘that’ sound. The guitar feels very comfortable to play, with an easy action – it’s in good condition for a 66 year old guitar. The top has been oversprayed because there are some cracks in the lacquer on the shoulders, there’s some sinking around the soundhole, and one repaired back crack. There’s a replacement Lindy Fralin pickup which sounds very authentic – possibly because it’s on an original body. The tuners are original, but one of the buttons has been replaced. All in all it’s a fantastic playing and sounding guitar, and just feels like a piece of musical history. It comes in a non original hard case.
