1990 Martin D45

SOLD  The D45 holds a place in history as being the most expensive, highly detailed, beautifully over the top dreadnought in Martin’s range. But is it the best sounding Spruce / Rosewood dreadnought….. well it’s pretty damn close. I sat down to play it before writing this, and lost an hour – it just sucked me in with it’s beguiling tone. Rich, dark, shimmering, resonant, I could run out of superlatives. This 35 year old guitar excels at just about everything; it strums, flat picks and plays fingerstyle on a different level to most guitars. With the age comes a maturity to the tone, a real openness that newer models can’t reach. The guitar is in excellent condition for it’s age, no cracks or repairs, just a little back binding separation at the waist, and the playability is fantastic. There’s an under saddle pickup fitted and the guitar comes in it’s original Martin branded hard case.

NEW ARRIVAL  Introduced in 1985, the J40 was Martin’s first jumbo model. Interesting that they waited so long, and also that they made it a high end 40 series, not an 18 or 28 series. Maybe they weren’t sure of the jumbo market? Either way it’s a belter of a guitar....

1928 Martin 2-17 – £3999

NEW ARRIVAL  It’s rare to find a Martin guitar from the 20’s, let alone one that plays this well. The 2-17 is an all Mahogany guitar, sized somewhere between a parlour and an 0, and was the first acoustic guitar Martin produced for steel strings. It feels as light as...
