2019 Lakestone SL – £1999

NEW ARRIVAL  Although luthier Tony Wright has been building guitars for over 30 years, he only founded Lakestone Guitars seven years ago, and are already receiving great plaudits. Having worked with George Lowden on several projects, his guitars have a similarity to classic Lowden guitars, but with a very modern twist. Also his choice of tone woods is very impressive. The SL (Small Lakestone) is essentially a mini jumbo, but with a deeper body to allow the bass notes to ring out – hence the Mahogany bevel, to make the guitar feel very comfortable to play. This example has a Western Red Cedar top with stunning Ziricote back and sides, an Ebony fingerboard and bridge, with Ziricote and Abalone rosette. The sound is full with clear lows, even mids and a beautiful high end with lots of string-to-string definition and complex overtones. The top is voiced by hand to provide a beautiful deep cutting through rounded bass, which is never overpowering. The guitar’s in excellent condition and is fitted with a JJB surface mount pickup which works very well, and comes in it’s original Hiscox flight case.
