1956 Martin 00-17 – £2499

SOLD  This is an all Mahogany, 00 size guitar in good condition, and a great example of a difficult to find Martin model. Tonally it has a warm, smooth sound, surprisingly full sounding when strummed, with beautifully defined single notes when fingerpicked, and an unmistakable vintage tone. The neck feels great to play with a gentle V profile, and the action is just right. The guitar is structurally sound with two repaired back cracks, and some finish missing on top. The other things to mention are that a previous owner has scratched his social security number on the back close to the neck heel – something often done by US servicemen – and also scratched his initials onto the back of the headstock. Both these could easily be covered, but I prefer to leave that decision to the next owner as some people like the kind of character this type of feature adds – this could be a Vietnam War veteran….. It comes in a non original hard case.
