1939 SS Stewart H-1130

SOLD  You should never buy a guitar on looks alone, but when it’s a 30’s built Harmony branded SS Stewart, with their hallmark lightly built ladder bracing, then the looks set this guitar apart from the rest. It’s an OM size, small jumbo shape, with a Spruce top and Birch back and sides, finished in a classy sunburst top and faux-figured maple-effect back and sides. The checkerboard bindings and soundhole trim, with exquisite firestripe pickguard, and Art Deco headstock motif give the guitar a pretty unique look – a real head turner. Tonally the guitar has a full and thick midrange, a bright treble response, with defined and focused bass and plenty of volume. It’s great under a heavy flatpick for single-note playing or arpeggiated chords, and is right at home playing raggy-blues fingerstyle. The guitar is in excellent condition, with no cracks or repairs, just added (50’s I think) locking tuners – which are themselves historically interesting. It comes in a non original case.
